Liz Frayn draws a distinction between training and education in medicine (THES, October 24). "Need to know" training is insufficient if professionals are to be able to adapt to new situations and make a contribution to a profession's development. Nursing has now adopted an education-based model yet is criticised for this, often by the medical profession.
