Next-wave product research wins £20m

The government has pledged £20 million towards an interdisciplinary research centre pioneering "next-wave intelligent products" such as fridges that order groceries direct from shops.

Universities are expected to bid to host the centre, which should attract £20 million in match funding from industry.

E-minister Patricia Hewitt has also announced £20 million for a high-speed national supercomputing grid.
