Whoever is given the HE/Science role in the new government should be aware of the 3 main requirements of the sector: 1/ Hands off - attempts to micromanage will not be accepted. 2/ Adequate funding for students and for research is required 3/ Sort out the mess regarding international links especially with Europe. It is too important to 'play politics' with.
What 'economical with the truth' nonsense. The comparison should be made with 2011 fees, not 2012. Then we'll see how much universities have been well protected from the effects of continued public spending cuts that have decimated other sectors. And don't forget the abolition of a limit on home student numbers, further swelling university coffers. And - lest we all forget - the 100% absolution of responsibility for universities if students don't earn enough to pay back their student loan. The amount of unpaid student debt is racking up day by day, and the taxpayer will ultimately foot a bill that will make the furlough scheme seem parsimonious.
