Details of admissions verdicts, budget decisions and marking schemes - but not exam scripts - will have to be released by universities under the Freedom of Information Act from January 1 2005. Institutions will be required by law to provide access within 20 days to any information recorded electronically or on paper, extending the rights provided under the Data Protection Act.
