Fantastic initiative Professors Chetty Lleras-Money and others. As a social scientist and researcher myself, I have realized for some time now that there has been and will always be a gap between the disciplinary literature and real world issues and how the latter unfolds. There is a similar gap between research and current realities of issues under investigation. One significant way of closing that gap and getting student to see how our courses link with real life is to start with the real life issues that students are aware of or will soon face this bringing the real issues into the classroom which is what you and others are now doing. Keep it up, encourage other professors to do likewise ...your course, the department, the university and most importantly the students would benefit. Keep it up...that's great.
