(Photograph) - Mistress carpenter: Filiz Civale-Uyar, an MA graduate from the Visual and Islamic Arts Department of the Prince of Wales Institute of Architecture, shows off carvings inspired by eighth-century Islamic designs. She is going on to become the first woman apprentice of a master carpenter in Turkey and hopes to teach a new generation of woodworkers the ancient techniques she has learned.
