Exeter University is to establish a chair in Western esotericism, after receiving a gift of £5,000 from the Blavatsky Trust. Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke will direct the Centre for the Study of Esotericism Worldwide and chair a masters programme.

Jonathan Barry, head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, said: "We are getting an excellent scholar and an opportunity to bring together a wide group of interests."
