Nobel Laureate Sir John Sulston is to join Manchester University to chair a new research institute focusing on ethical questions raised by science and technology. The Institute of Science, Ethics and Innovation will look at issues including genetic selection of human embryos. Sir John, currently acting chair of the Human Genetics Commission, was a former director of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. His appointment is the latest in a series of "iconic" appointments for the university.
