Leeds footballers in dock for student assault

Two Leeds United footballers were to appear before Leeds magistrates today in connection with a street attack on an Asian student from Leeds Metropolitan University.

Lee Bowyer, 23, and Jonathan Woodgate, 20, are charged with causing grievous bodily harm and affray following the assault in Leeds city centre in January that left Sarfraz Najeib, 19, with serious injuries.

Team-mate Michael Duberry, 24, and reserve team striker Tony Hackworth, 19, have had their bail renewed.
