US president George W. Bush has nominated Bruce Cole, professor of fine arts at Indiana University at Bloomington, as chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Police use tear gas on protesting students
Greek police yesterday used tear gas and baton-charged students who tried to break through a cordon outside the education ministry in Athens during protests over a new law upgrading technical colleges to university status.
