I see very little connection between the subject matter of papers by STEM authors and that of papers by humanists so it is not surprising there is a significant difference in citation rate. STEM researchers are informing other STEM researchers of new discoveries in STEM fields with the hope they might be of some use in furthering an investigation or understanding a result, all with the intent that the end result be a solid foundation for further work. Personal opinion of STEM authors is usually of little consequence. Contrast that with the objectives of most humanist authors
