Men are as likely to feel harassed and tired and want to leave but cannot because in many cases they are still the main breadwinner. This article does not address all the reasons some leave and others stay. In my experience, it is not being female or male that makes a difference but whether those at the 'top' support you. I have seen women with meteoric rises; others I would consider as more worthy without promotion or career progression opportunities. Ditto for men. In my view, unconscious and sometime conscious bias remains. It is not based on whether one is male or female.
True. Support at the top is not always equal handed. Some get more support than others based on 'who you know'.
A survey comparing childless female academics with male academics would be useful.
I hope that there will be a study for people with different characteristics as well. Be interesting to read the findings.
The focus is on academic staff but I wonder what is the rate of being pushed out of their jobs or the attrition rate because of department climate for academic administrators.
