(Photograph) - fifteen fire engines were called to deal with a blaze that engulfed an office and laboratory in Birmingham University's eight-storey biochemistry building on Monday. All staff were safely evacuated from the building, but the fire, treated as a 'major incident' by the fire service, caused an estimated Pounds 250,000 worth of damage. The fire is believed to have started accidentally in a sixth-floor office, but the exact cause is unknown. A university spokesman said the building 'got off surprisingly lightly' and is now back in use.
