The Sierra Leone government has ordered the reopening of the country's Fourah-Bay University after the Liberian-backed rebels were driven from the capital, Freetown.

Lecturers and students who managed to flee the country, however, are not likely to return to the campus until a lasting peace is in place. This is unlikely in the near future because of continued fighting between government troops and the rebels.
