(Photograph) - Unison, which has long campaigned to raise wages, has called for further education staff to get a pay rise of Pounds 500 or 5 per cent, whichever is greater. Its claim is linked to the introduction of a minimum wage of Pounds 4.61 per hour. A survey of nearly 150 further education colleges found that more than 64 per cent paid some staff less than Pounds 4 an hour, and some got less than Pounds 3. Less than half awarded last year's nationally agreed pay rise.
