Students at the University of El-Ayun, the capital of Western Sahara, clashed with Morrocan police during a demonstration calling for the United Nations to speed up plans for a referendum on independence. The Western Sahara, a former colony of Spain, is under the military control of Morocco. Students were charged with disturbing the peace.
