Crewe to step down

Sir Ivor Crewe has said that he will stand down as vice-chancellor of Essex University in September next year. He has held the post since 1995 and has overseen expansion of the student population from 5,500 to almost 9,000 students. He served as president of Universities UK in 2003-05.
