London has beaten Amsterdam, Barcelona and Stockholm to host the 2009 International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) annual meeting, it was confirmed this week.

The seventh annual meeting is expected to attract more than 6,000 stem-cell experts to the ExCel Centre in Docklands for four days in summer 2009.

Malcolm Wicks, the Minister for Science and Innovation, said: "The UK is a world leader in stem-cell research. This meeting will be a chance to showcase Britain's expertise and enable experts to meet and exchange valuable knowledge."
