Colleges cough up Pounds 15m to help students

The "collapse" of local authority student support has forced colleges to find Pounds 15 million to help students, says an Association of Colleges survey. This year, more than 14 per cent of full-time students have sought their colleges help to pay for books and transport. Colleges have helped about 100,000 students, with payments of up to Pounds 100.
