Well start by being polite and calling the place by its correct name Londonderry. Why should England pay for something if they (who ever they are) want to be part of or identified as part of the Republic of Ireland. Could such a small population pay for everything themselves not likely.
What an entirely idiotic comment. Your comment shows an astounding level of both ignorance and arrogance. Firstly, Derry is a recognised name for this city. The city council is City of Derry, the airport is City of Derry airport. The balance on the naming the city is well established with balance between Derry and Londonderry being used as standard. Secondly, NI is part of the UK and should be on an equal footing for education and education funding and educational opportunities. It is not, currently. There are wider impacts for that including loss of young people to other UK universities/cities, economic with lack of HE spin-outs, science parks, research benefits to business and NI society. For a city of its size, Derry requires a standalone civic university that will meet the educational needs and wider benefits of the city. It does not have that with the current situation of one small ever-diminishing satellite campus of UU. The population of cities such as Bath and Lancaster are less than Derry/Londonderry yet both have well establishes, research-intensive Russell Group universities. Why should Derry/Londonderry be any different?
