Boycott suspended

The Association of University Teachers has agreed to suspend its academic boycott - or greylisting - of Nottingham University.

The union suspended greylisting as a gesture of goodwill after informal talks led to a breakthrough. A spokesman said: "We are balloting our members on whether to make the suspension permanent." The results were expected as The Times Higher went to press.

The spokesman added: "A series of proposals were put to the university council, which were accepted and freed the way for negotiations to continue. There is a long way to go, we have not resolved all our differences on performance-related pay and pensions, but a basis for trust has been re-established."

The union greylisted the university at the start of this term after accusing it of reneging on a national framework on pay and conditions hammered out earlier this year.
