Arts make you happy

Getting involved with arts activities can help keep people healthy, according to a new study from Manchester Metropolitan University.

The three-year Treasury- funded project has shown that engaging in activities such as painting, dance, crafts, music and storytelling can increase psychological wellbeing and reduce levels of anxiety and depression. Clive Parkinson, from the university's faculty of art and design, said: "We found projects that stimulate people's minds and encourage them to be creative can have a profound impact on their health and wellbeing."
