This is because numerous UK universities invite staff to the UK on an Academic Visitor visa. It DOES NOT give any right to work to the visitor yet many are found to be giving lectures, seminars and working in collaborative resarch groups. HEIs like this as most of these visitors pay a bench fee and can'ttake a wage, most in fact are from China and paid by the China Scholarship Council. They are are taking roles away from UK/EU staff in doing this.
1) The academic visitor visa no longer exists; 2) The Standard Visitor visa permits many of the activities (guest lectures, seminars, engaging in research) mentioned - and these are legitimate activities for visiting researchers to engage in!; 3) Bench fees are typically charged (if they're charged at all) to visiting students who would be on a Tier 4 visa; 4) CSC is for PhD students (Tier 4 visa, again), not Academic Visitors and such students are attending for 3-4 years for the purposes of doctoral research; 5) Please provide evidence for your last claim of such visitors taking jobs from UK/EU researchers.
