I fully agree. Native speakers don't 'own' the language and people from all over the world have made English their own. I'm not saying language standards aren't useful, especially since it's difficult to know each and every English variety out there for assessment purposes, but the reality is we can't expect a one size fits all perspective regarding a language that is anything but.
