Peter McGuffin ("At the cutting edge", THES, August 14) tells us that the reports of his claim to have discovered a gene for bad luck were embarrassing and inaccurate. The genetic inheritance his team actually discovered, he says, was a "gloomy, threat-sensitive outlook, which may in turn lead to unhappy life events, such as divorce". I take it, then, that we may accurately report his having discovered the gene for divorce?
