A premier but not first

Your interesting feature on Lady Thatcher ("A nanny no, a Medusa ... maybe", THES, March 3) states that she was the first chancellor of the University of Buckingham. This is incorrect.

Lord Hailsham was our first chancellor, appointed as such by our Royal Charter in 1983. Lady Thatcher succeeded him on his retirement in 1992.
