It's always been like that for women and ethnic minorities. In my experience women, whatever their talents and qualifications, have been stepped on or over so that almost all positions are donated to men. If this inequality was considered at all it was justified by men and personnel offices with the crass assumption that women didn’t need jobs, were spending a lifetime bringing up babies and had some mysterious guardian in the background looking after them - where instead of course men were altruistically doing ‘it’ (the job - with its earlier excellent remuneration and status) for their families. Perhaps now with the weight of so many understanding the injustice at least the situation and prejudice is out in the open and all the exploitation is constantly challenged.
