Your vice-chancellors and principals pay league included a rise awarded to Robert Withers, principal of the University College of Scarborough (Analysis, THES , February 8).
His pay package was not over-large. It included one-off redundancy and pension provisions that were standard, indeed negotiated by Natfhe. Withers was an excellent principal who worked hard for his students and staff. There is no question of his integrity.
