University College London's student union does sell bitter (Diary, THES , December 7). On Monday nights, lager is sold at 99p as part of a promotion. John Smith's was included but did not sell well. It costs £1.50 a pint and Best £1.30. The student magazine article cited aimed to get John Smith's re-introduced at 99p on Mondays. But most students are willing to pay a little extra and are not at all bitter.
