University spin-off companies on the rise

Technology transfer is becoming easier in United Kingdom universities as the number of spin-off companies continues to climb, according to the UK University Companies Association.

At a conference in Birmingham this week, the technology managers from 50 universities heard about 130 spin-offs that have been created from the University Challenge Fund, set up through the Department of Trade and Industry's Science Enterprise Initiative in 1999.
