University of Bedfordshire - 13th-century bonanza

Secrets from the 13th century have been revealed at an archaeological dig on a site owned by a university. The landowner Fulk de Breaute built a settlement nearly 800 years ago on land that is now home to the University of Bedfordshire. The dig's most significant find was a stretch of moat belonging to a castle built in 1221. Other finds, including medieval domestic waste such as pottery and leather shoes and a group of 12 children's graves dating from between the 17th century and the early 19th century, are helping to build a more comprehensive picture of Luton's growth over the centuries.
