Union wants post-92 blood on Hefce board

Union leaders in the new universities have called for more post-92 members on the board of the English funding council.

In a letter to education secretary David Blunkett, university and college lecturers' union Natfhe complains that not one of the Higher Education Funding Council for England's 14 board members is from a new university.

One is from a college of higher education in the post-92 sector and one from further education, but three of the other academic members are members of the Russell Group of elite universities and many of the seven non-academic board members also have links with Russell Group institutions.
