Rat is barred from Dundee rector race

Animal rights activists will be heartened to know that Dundee University has taken a stand against potential rat abuse. The university has disallowed the nomination of Twinkle Rat, a student pet, in the forthcoming elections for university rector.

It was ruled invalid on the grounds that the rat had not personally signed the form confirming acceptance of the nomination.

A university spokeswoman said there was no evidence that the paw prints on the form belonged to the candidate and were not obtained under duress.

The rector is elected by students next Friday.
