Queen's v-c to retire

Sir George Bain, vice-chancellor of Queen's University, Belfast, since 1998, is to retire next summer. Canadian-born Sir George, an industrial relations expert who chaired the review of firefighters' pay, has presided over a major restructuring of Queen's. The changes were controversial, with investment in staff partly financed by loss of posts.
