Peerage for Triesman

David Triesman, general secretary of the Labour Party and former head of the Association of University Teachers, has been appointed to the House of Lords. His appointment comes before as many as 30 working peers are announced later this month. Mr Triesman, 60, who left the AUT in 2001, has also been made a government whip.
