NUS vow to halt fee hike

A campaign to prevent tuition fees being raised at the end of the decade will be the keynote of the National Union of Students' latest manifesto.

The manifesto, published this week ahead of the three party conferences, also calls for a halt to course closures.

Kat Fletcher, NUS president, said that the union would try to persuade MPs not to further "erode the right to free education" when they reviewed tuition fees before the next election.

She added: "The national union will be placing student activities back at the heart of the organisation by encouraging active citizenship and increased participation in extracurricular activities, and lobbying the Government to recognise the value of non-formal learning."
