A group of Russian mafiosi who robbed a currency exchange office at Moscow State University 18 months ago have been given prison sentences following a city court case.

The gang was caught after a police investigation. In recent years, Moscow State has been the centre for fierce struggles between different gangs intent on taking a slice of the profits to be made from the numerous small businesses run in the university's Stalinist central building in Moscow's Sparrow Hills. Three years ago, a dispute among Caucasian mafia left a man dead after a shoot-out in the canteen.
