Universities and colleges in Northern Ireland are the most egalitarian in terms of social class, according to 1997 figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency. The majority of accepted applicants to full-time higher education in Northern Ireland in 1997 came from skilled non-manual backgrounds and three lower social classes.
