De Montfort University is investing £1.7 million to transform its main Kimberlin Library into a 24-hour "state-of-the-art learning zone". It has made provision for wireless internet access, and it will equip new rooms for project work with audiovisual and IT facilities.

Kathryn Arnold, director of library services, said: "The way students study has changed. They want somewhere they can discuss their work in groups, where they can use their laptops and where they can have a cup of coffee while they work."
