Leeds gets tough on lecturer's race speech

* Frank Ellis, the Leeds University academic due to address an extreme right conference in the United States, has been denied leave to attend. Dr Ellis, a Russian and Slavonic studies lecturer, was originally told that he could attend the biennial American Renaissance as long as it was clear he was not speaking as a representative of Leeds University. However, after the anti-Fascist magazine Searchlight revealed he planned to attack the Macpherson report in his paper sub-titled, "Racial Hysteria in Britain", the university changed its mind.
