Australia's students demand funding commitment
As Australia enters a federal election year, the country’s National Union of Students has demanded a substantial increase in funding for universities. President David Henderson said: “Students will no longer tolerate lip-service to the knowledge nation in the absence of real funding commitments.”

Strike leads to wage increase
An 11-week strike by tutorial and graduate assistants at York University, in Toronto, Canada, has ended with a 2 per cent wage increase in each of the next two years and a rebate for any tuition fee increases exceeding 2 per cent over the same period.
