Heriot-Watt University - Sea key to greener drugs

New technology designed to analyse large numbers of marine microbes could lead to more efficient and greener ways to manufacture drugs to treat patients with diseases such as epilepsy, diabetes and flu. Researchers at Heriot-Watt University and the Plymouth Marine Laboratory are working with Ingenza, an Edinburgh-based company, to identify new enzymes for use in the pharmaceutical industry.
