The Government's expansion plans will produce graduates the economy does not need and who have little chance of securing a decent job, according to research. Ewart Keep, of Warwick Business School, and Ken Mayhew, of Oxford University, who jointly run the Economic and Social Research Council Centre on Skill, Knowledge and Organisational Performance, say that money would be better invested in vocational training and apprenticeships rather than trying to get half of all 18 to 30-year-olds into higher education by 2010.
