Brits win share of prize

British research groups have shared in the European Union's e1 million (£642,000) Descartes prize, which is designed to reward pan-EU science.

One winner includes scientists from Dundee and Edinburgh universities in a Danish-led group researching multiple sclerosis. The other winning group, led by Edward van den Heuvel of the University of Amsterdam, worked on gamma-ray bursts.
