The new principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology will be Bob Boucher, now pro vice chancellor of the University of Sheffield. He is a mechanical engineer and chairman of the Engineering Professors' Council. He succeeds Harold Hankin in September 1995.
