Blackshirts uncovered

A leading synagogue in Salford was once the regional headquarters of Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists. Manchester University historian Yaakov Wise uncovered the synagogue's past while studying street directories, old media reports, Home Office and MI5 files.

Mosley had even considered moving the national headquarters of his Blackshirts to what is now the synagogue in Northumberland Street, Higher Broughton.
