Ten students from the University of Cote d'Ivoire went on hunger strike inside the capital's Catholic cathedral in protest at military leader General Robert Guei's decision to run for president. They accused Mr Guei of breaking his promise not to participate in the transition to civil rule and of stage-managing the election in order to continue in office.
