Nearly one million British students owe the Student Loans Company money, new figures show. The deferred repayment option remains a popular safety net for graduates not earning above Pounds 1,482 gross per month, with just under half of last year's graduates deferring payment for a year. The SLC recently adopted a tougher line on arrears.
