Might I add two RAE categories to the vice-chancellor of Poppleton University's list (Laurie Taylor, THES , February 1)? "Almost as research active as the others, but we didn't want to take the risk of submitting them" and "Active, but if we'd said they were inactive, we might have got another £100k a year".
