“There are lots of people in universities that hardly ever get positive feedback" - totally agree. With somethign like the REF, you are only as useful as what you can bring for the next one. Every contribution you have made in the past count for nought. The pseudo-managers (failed academics who become managers) are the bane of academia as they are short-sighted and live from REF to REF.
